OWYN Protein Shakes

OWYN (Only What You Need) protein shakes are plant-based protein drinks designed to provide clean, high-quality nutrition. They are dairy-free, gluten-free, and made without artificial ingredients, making them a great option for those with dietary restrictions or preferences.

Here's what you need to know about this drink.... OWYN protein shakes are 100% vegan, gluten-free, non-dairy, and non-GMO verified. They’re made with three plant-based protein sources—pea protein, organic pumpkin seed protein and organic flax oil—for a total of 20 grams of protein.

These are the regular protein shakes; there’s also the OWYN Pro Elite shakes, which have 32 grams of protein per serving.

Now that I told you some of the basics, let me tell you my experience drinking OWYN protein shake.

Overview of OWYN Protein Shakes

Pro's to OWYN Protein Shakes

This is a very healthy on-the-go protein shake and it's more for vegans or vegetarians.

When I drank this, I was filled up for 2 hours. Meaning the protein content delivers.

Why I recommend this drink: It's a great option for any of my readers that cannot drink ON Gold Standard Whey Protein.

Con's of OWYN Protein Shakes

This contains high fiber which means it will give you the shits

This does contain fat. It's not a lot but it has 6 grams of total fat.

Why I don't recommend this to everyone: It's not ideal for someone like me who has a history of IBS.

I wanted to give you all a quick review on this drink because I don't plan on breaking this down like how I did with Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass or Bucked Up Greens.

This is a decent post workout shake, however, it's more on-the-go if you're in a rush. And in my mind, as I said, if you have a history of irritable bowel syndrome, I would try to find something different other than OWYN protein shake.

That's not to say I don't like this drink, simply put, I remember one day when I crapped like 5 times. Yeah I know, you might find that weird, but I'm here to give you my overall honest thoughts of how this drink affected my gut.

Are OWYN Protein Shakes Worth it?

This is a little over $3.00 per bottle that you will find. However, if you don't have gut issues with pumpkin seed protein like me, then I'd say buy this.

Again, please do not misinterpret this article as I am attacking this product. If anything, I respect that they use all organic.

However, I am a little biased towards sticking with Bulk Supplements if you're body can handle the whey protein because that is clean whey protein.

The reason I can recommend that, even though it's not in my recommended products page is because this article more applies to people who are looking for clean protein that doesn't have artificial bullshit that many whey protein brands have.

OWYN doesn't have artificial additives, so in my opinion that is why it is worth it, for the right person that is looking for Vegan Protein.

How it's Formulated

OWYN protein shakes uses vegan protein blend that combines pea protein, organic pumpkin seed protein, and organic flaxseed oil.

Let's break down all of the major key ingredients:

Plant-Based Protein: Made from pea protein, organic pumpkin seeds, and flaxseed to deliver a complete amino acid profile.

  • 20g Protein Per Serving: Provides essential muscle-building nutrients.
  • No Artificial Additives: Free from artificial sweeteners, flavors, or preservatives
  • Allergy-Friendly: Free from the top 9 allergens, including dairy, soy, gluten, and nuts
  • Essential Nutrients: Contains Omega-3s, fiber, and superfoods like greens blend (kale, spinach, and broccoli).
  • Great Taste: Available in flavors like Chocolate, Vanilla, Cookies & Cream, and Smooth Vanilla.

In terms of taste, I can recommend this drink. However the reason I rated this 6 out of 10 is the high fiber.

Side Effects of OWYN Protein Shakes

The good news I can tell you is the allergic reactions to this are very rare. Meaning, you're likely not going to have anything major happen.

However here are the two reported side effects I did experience:

  • Bloating & Gas: Pea protein, one of the main protein sources, can cause bloating in some individuals.
  • Stomach Discomfort: Some people may experience mild stomach upset due to fiber or natural sweeteners like monk fruit or stevia.

The good news for anyone who can handle the pea protein is you will like this drink, I'm sure because the pea protein you can taste.

However, my experience again is bloating and constipation. Nothing more than that.

Third Party Testing

Attractive Body

Okay, here's a major positive I like about OWYN protein shakes is I can confidently tell you that they do third party testing. This is what you need to know:

NSF Certified for Sport

  • OWYN protein shakes are NSF Certified for Sport, meaning they are tested for banned substances and contaminants to ensure safety for athletes.
  • This certification ensures that the product contains what it claims on the label and is free from harmful additives.

Heavy Metal & Allergen Testing

  • OWYN states that their products are tested for heavy metals, pesticides, and microbiological contaminants to ensure purity.
  • Their shakes are also verified to be free from the top 9 allergens (dairy, soy, gluten, tree nuts, etc.).

Vegan & Non-GMO Verification

  • OWYN shakes are vegan-certified and Non-GMO Project Verified, confirming they contain no animal products or genetically modified ingredients.

The Bottom Line: 6 out of 10

I really have to let you all know in advance, the purpose of me reviewing this protein shake is one of my clients asked my thoughts on this product.

So I decided to try it. Yes, it's VERY sensitive to my stomach more so even than Animal Pak Multivitamin, and that is saying something.

However, this particular pumpkin seed protein is just a little too gassy for me. And that may not be your experience. So don't let me stop you from trying it if you have a whey allergy.

Meaning, do not let me discourage any of you reading to giving this a shot if you are sensitive to whey protein.

I am rating this 6 out of 10 due to the fact that people with IBS need to watch how much they drink this. It's funny to me, but Mutant Mass is much more digestible for me than OWYN protein shakes.

So take what you want from my review. I can only recommend this to vegetarian's who refuse to consume whey protein. Feel free to comment below and let me know if you have any questions.
